Up to 1987 the Government Insurance Office was the
sole insurer involved in the Compulsory third Party
scheme. The government at the time made changes to this
scheme and intoduced Transcover in 1988.
In 1989, after further significant changes to the scheme
which saw the introduction of the Motor Accidents Act
1988 and the involvement of a number of insurers, including
QBE. Two years later, competition was introduced amongst
the insurers and a competitive rate for the CTP policy
was being offered.
In 1999 the scheme was reviewed again, because the
public wanted a more competitive price for their CTP
insurance. This also lead to some significant changes
to the claims handling procedures. These changes included:
- a greater emphasis on providing
effective and early treatment and encourage the early
resolution of claims.
- limits on the amount of compensation
and
- alternate dispute resolution processes,
reducing the need for court intervention.
If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident and
need to make a claim QBE:
- will strive to provide a professional
claims service with integrity and understanding
- will work with injured claimants,
their families and the treatment providers to encourage
a swift recovery and a return to normal activity
- is committed to the assessment
of fair and equitable claims settlement within the
spirit and intention of the Act.
