Mark Joiner

Independent Non-Executive Chairperson

Mark has more than 30 years of international and Australian top tier business experience.

Throughout his career, Mark has served as Executive Director of Finance for National Australia Bank Group, Chief Financial Officer and Head of Strategy and Mergers and Acquisitions for Citigroup’s global wealth management business in New York, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Boston Consulting Group and Associate Director of Australian Ratings (now Standard & Poor’s). Mark has also held directorships at Clydesdale Bank Plc, Boston Consulting Group and JBWere.

Mark holds an MBA with distinction from the Melbourne Business School and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England and Wales).

In addition to chairing the QBE Australian and New Zealand Operations (ANZO) Board, Mark chairs the ANZO Investments Committee.


Kathleen Bailey Lord

Independent Non-Executive Director

Kathleen was appointed as a non-executive director in March 2015. Kathleen chairs the ANZO HR and Remuneration Committee and is a member of all other board committees. An experienced company director, Kathleen is an Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Fellow and AICD Technology Governance & Innovation Advisory Panel Member. Currently, she serves on the boards of Melbourne Water Corporation and Monash College.

Kathleen enjoyed a diverse senior executive career that spanned financial services (ANZ Bank, Fordham group), technology (IBM), professional services and marketing/media (PMP). An optimist, Kathleen believes the combination of people and technology can transform the world for the benefit of all. She cares deeply about the implications for business and society and encourages all business leaders to lean in to the complexity and ambiguity of our age and actively craft our collective future.


John Gilbert

Independent Non-Executive Director

John Gilbert has extensive experience in the financial services sector. He is a former Director of ECU Ltd, former Managing Director of MyState Limited and is a former Chief Executive Officer of Cuscal Limited.

John chairs the ANZO Board Risk and Capital Committee.

Ming Long

Ming Long

Independent Non-Executive Director

Ming has more than 25 years experience in financial management and senior executive experience in property investment, commercial and residential development, media, and funds management. She held senior executive positions including CEO and CFO positions in real estate leading both listed and unlisted entities through challenging markets and uncertain economic environments.

Ming is currently Chair of AMP Funds Management Limited, Deputy Chair at Diversity Council of Australia, a non-executive director of Chartered Accountants of Australia & New Zealand, and serves as an advisory board member of YBF Fintech Hub. She has previously served as a Non-Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia, a Member of the Finance and Audit Committee at Sydney University, an Executive Director of Investa Funds Management, and Managing Director of Investa Property Group Holdings.

Ming is a Fellow Chartered Accountant, a Fellow of Finsia, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Economics and Laws from Sydney University and an MBA from University of Technology, Sydney.


Tony McGrath

Independent Non-Executive Director

Tony McGrath is the Co-Chair of McGrathNicol, an independent boutique advisory firm specialising in corporate advisory, forensics, transaction services and corporate recovery. Tony has more than 30 years of restructuring and insolvency experience and one of his key assignments was to work on the HIH Insurance collapse, which was considered to be one of the largest downfalls in Australian corporate history. Tony also handled the Pan Pharmaceuticals Group liquidation and the voluntary administration of the Henry Walker Eltin Group, Allco and Lift Capital.

Tony is on the board of the National Foundation for Medical Research and Innovation, as well as the Australian Rugby League Commission. He has a Bachelor of Business and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Tony chairs the ANZO Board Audit Committee.


Helen Nott

Independent Non-Executive Director

Helen is an experienced company director, passionate about customers, data, innovation and the community. She is currently non-executive director of the Australian Paralympic Committee.

Helen has previously held senior leadership roles in the industry at Insurance Australia Group and at QBE Australia and New Zealand. She has created InsureTech businesses and supported new investment to meet emerging customer needs. Prior to this, Helen spent many years in leading advisory roles, such as with Booz Allen Hamilton (now Strategy&), PwC Corporate Finance and Recovery and with CSIRO Mathematics and Information Sciences (now Data61).

Helen has a Bachelor of Science Hons I (Mathematics), a PhD in Engineering (Optimisation) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.


Vivek Bhatia

Executive Director and CEO

Vivek joined QBE in February 2018 in the role of CEO, Australian & New Zealand Operations.

Before joining QBE, Vivek was inaugural CEO and MD of icare, the NSW Government AUD$32 billion public financial corporation managing the state’s insurance and care schemes.

Vivek has more than 20 years’ experience in the insurance and management consulting sectors. Vivek was previously the CEO of Wesfarmers Insurance in Australia, where he was responsible for leading the multi-brand, multi-channel insurer through a significant transformation journey. He has also co-led McKinsey & Co’s Asia Pacific Restructuring & Transformation practice.


Chris Killourhy

Chief Financial Officer

Chris has close to 20 years of industry experience and a strong background in actuarial, economics, governance, technical pricing, capital modelling and senior management. He was appointed as Interim Chief Financial Officer for the Australia and New Zealand business in 2018.

Chris joined QBE in 2017 as Chief Actuarial Officer, where he led business planning, quarterly valuation, independent validation of Economic Capital Model, technical pricing and actuarial and statistical insights. Prior to this, Chris was the Chief Actuary at Equator Re – the entity responsible for managing the QBE Group’s risk appetite and capital.

Chris has worked for global insurance and consulting companies internationally and in Australia. He is a member of the QBE Group Actuarial Leadership team and of actuary institutions around the world.
