Company News

Last month, a severe fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. QBE is deeply concerned about the affected residents and businesses. We understand this is a challenging time for them, so QBE will implement special support measures to demonstrate our commitment and care for the community through concrete actions.

For home insurance policyholders, the following arrangements applied:
Immediate compensation without review: HKD 100,000 per policy
Expedited Advance Payment Arrangement for Temporary Accommodation: Each policyholder was entitled to up to HKD 15,000 (depending on plan type), which was disbursed within 24 hours after the incident occurred.
Accelerated claims processing: Compensation was paid instantly via FPS or bank transfer.
List of affected customers: Based on our records, we sent separate emails to the agents and brokers of affected customers, and our account managers contacted them to arrange follow-up matters.
For other potentially affected policy types, such as domestic helper insurance and personal accident, QBE proactively reached out to clients to handle claims where applicable.

QBE had always upheld the philosophy of “Protecting Customers, Supporting Communities.” Together with you, we strove to ensure every affected customer felt our care and commitment.

At QBE, our goal is to help build resilience by supporting people through change. As customer risks become more complex, we aim to be a consistent, innovative partner by developing technology-driven solutions that make doing business with us easier.

In Asia, we continue to move forward in our phased introduction of 'Claims Virtual Assist' – a generative AI solution that would help our claims handlers in the work that we do for partners and our shared customers. This solution will assist our claims handlers by automatically extracting information from claims documents, improving the quality of the data captured and overall claims assessment accuracy. Together, this automation will speed up our claims handling process.

At QBE we apply responsible use of AI considerations, appropriate transparency and include our people in the process. We are providing this update to you in the spirit of being transparent about how we use Generative AI.
