QBE Summer Holiday Travel Insurance Promotion

Summer is the peak travel season—but also peak typhoon season. Flight delays, trip cancellations, lost luggage… a single storm can disrupt your entire holiday plan. But with travel insurance, you can travel with peace of mind—rain or shine!

To help your clients stay protected, QBE launched a special Summer Travel Insurance Promotion starting from June 1 to August 31, 2025 (based on the policy transaction date). Enjoy a 10% discount on the following travel insurance plans:

  • Qnect Annual Travel Insurance (new policies only)
  • Single Trip Travel Insurance (via Qnect or B2C customer platforms)

QBE reminds clients: “Buy insurance before the storm hits!” That is the only way to truly protect your journey.

🛡️ Travel Insurance & Typhoons: Timing is Everything

The key lies in the timing of the customer’s insurance purchase. If a customer purchases travel insurance within three hours after the Hong Kong Observatory announces the consideration of issuing Typhoon Signal No. 8, all coverage related to the typhoon will be eligible for claims. This includes losses due to flight disruptions (such as delays or cancellations) caused by the typhoon.

However, if the travel insurance is purchased more than three hours after the announcement, any claims related to that typhoon will not be covered, as the typhoon is then considered a known event.

Therefore, financial advisors should remind customers to purchase insurance as early as possible to ensure coverage. All typhoon-related arrangements will be based on the official announcements issued by our company. Please stay updated with the latest information to understand the requirements and scope of coverage in a timely manner.

🛡️ When is the Best Time to Buy Travel Insurance?

Clients can purchase QBE travel insurance up to 90 days before their departure date, and coverage can begin as early as 60 days before departure.

The earlier the policy is purchased, the better—especially in case of unexpected events before departure, such as severe weather or travel advisories that may lead to trip changes, cancellations, or delays. Please note: once coverage has started, the policy cannot be cancelled.


Sudden Earthquake Triggers Tsunami – What If Your Travel Plans Are Disrupted?

A powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake recently struck the eastern coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering tsunami warnings across the Pacific region, including Japan, Alaska, and Hawaii. This may pose significant disruptions to travelers' itineraries. If your clients wish to cancel or shorten their trips due to the earthquake or tsunami, they may be eligible to file a claim, provided the following conditions are met:

Claim Eligibility:

  • The earthquake occurred within one week prior to the scheduled departure date and directly affects the destination;
  • The cancelled items involve prepaid and non-refundable expenses (e.g., airfare, accommodation);
  • Official documentation can be provided (e.g., news reports, government announcements).

⚠️ Exclusions:

  • Cancellations due to earthquakes that were previously warned or foreseeable are not covered;
  • Travel insurance purchased after the earthquake will not cover losses resulting from delays, cancellations, or disruptions caused by the event;
  • Claims without proof of financial loss will not be accepted.

💡 Helpful Reminder:

Travel insurance still provides protection for other unexpected situations during the trip—such as injury, illness, lost luggage, or flight delays.

Insuring Process:

  1. Issue quote in Qnect:
    • Issue Quote via Qnect, and upload the “renewal notice” from other insurers in Qnect and remark “EC Price Match” in the Qnect referral to underwriters.
  2. Issue quote in non Qnect:
    • Remark “EC Price Match” in the Qnect referral to underwriters.
    • Attach the “renewal notice” and send to [email protected].
    • For gross premium over HK$30,000, please copy your RM in the email.

Product Update

Last month, we notified you about an update to the definition of “Professional Sports” in Personal Accident Insurance. To clarify the effective dates, please see the corrected details below:

  • New Policies: The updated definition will take effect starting October 1, 2025 (based on the policy commencement date).
  • Renewal Policies: The new definition will be received starting August 1, 2025, and will apply to renewal policies with a commencement date on or after October 1, 2025.

For update, “Professional Sports”refers to any athletic activity in which the insured person engages under the following conditions to which the individual:

(1) receives remuneration, prize money, or financial support (including but not limited to scholarships or stipends) for his/her participation in the sport;

(2) competes on a full-time basis or participates in a recognized league, tournament, or competition; or

(3) represents a professional team, organization, or entity at a competitive level that requires specialized training. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • The Hong Kong Sport Institute (HKSI)
  • The Hong Kong SAR representative team
  • Notable or elite-level sports clubs

For the avoidance of doubt, the following activities shall NOT be classified as Professional Sport unless they independently satisfy the criteria listed above:

  1. Participation in school-organized sports events, including inter-school competitions.
  2. Participation in community events, recreational leagues, or amateur tournaments.
  3. Receipt of incidental or one-time payments (e.g. nominal event prizes or appearance fees) without concurrent full-time participation or representation of a professional entity.

Clients' Information

To ensure smooth issuance of policies/quotations in Qnect, it is recommended that agents provide complete customer information when issuing in Qnect, such as the customer's full name and personal details, address, email, and contact information, to help expedite the issuance process.

Scheduled Maintenance for Qnect and B2C Platforms

To help you work more efficiently and smoothly, the Qnect system will undergo maintenance from 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, until 3:00 PM the following day. During this scheduled period, both the Qnect and B2C platforms will be inaccessible.

Agents are advised to plan ahead and handle policy issuance in advance. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

To thank our agents for their continued support of QBE and for cheering everyone on during the FAE period, we recently handed out ice cream at MFC and MT.
