Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles Update

Hong Kong Government has been announced  arrangements of "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles".

• Press release of Hong Kong Government: "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" open for application from June 1 (info.gov.hk) 
• Application date of "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles":
  • The scheme will be open for application from eligible Hong Kong private cars from 9am on June 1 this year. 
    • Applicants should go to "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" website to register, which will be allocated through computer balloting.
    • The first round of ballot registration is from May 29 to 30, and the result will be released on May 31.
  • Approved Hong Kong private cars will be allowed to travel between Hong Kong and Guangdong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) starting from 0.00am on July 1.

Upon this partnership, we have become one of the first insurers providing the one-stop-shop cross-border motor coverage for those traveling across the border to the GBA under the Scheme.

Key Qnect Changes on Private Motor effective on 1st May 2023

Update Qnect system of private motor insurance:

• When you issue new Motor Supersurance ( Qnect ) from 1 May 2023, you only choose car model and manufacture year instead of entering sum insured. When there is a total loss, claim amount would be only pay up to market value or original net purchase value shown in Vehicle Registration Document (Market value or declared whichever is the less).It can avoid over or under insurance.
• We understand if it is a hire purchase vehicle, banks / financing companies would require the insured to present an insurance policy stating the car value. There is an option to display Estimated Car Value on the insurance documents only if hire purchase option is selected.

New system manages new business:

• More scenarios would become a "straight-through" cases without going through underwriter's handling.
• Example: Non-Performance Electric Vehicle Models
  • Tesla Model 3 & Y (Standard Range / Long Range) 

Underwriting criteria update:

• Driver's Life Protector Benefit:  Motor Supersurance policy extends cover to the event of the Permanent Total Disablement caused by a traffic accident whilst driving the Motor Vehicle, the Company will pay a cash benefit to the Insured or Named Driver or the legal representative.
• No Claim Discount Protector:  There is unlimited claims and total claim amount of the policy is not exceed HK$60,000 within any one insurance period, which will not affect policy renewal in next year.
• Windscreen covers:  Windscreen or any other car windows of the Motor Vehicle where the repair cost thereof does not exceed HK$6,000 (one or more times) within any one insurance period ( only repair or replacement done by motor vehicle ' Windscreen' repairer designated by QBE Hong Kong).
• "New for old" REPLACEMENT VEHICLE BENEFIT: Motor Supersurance will no longer require entering the sum insured. The net purchase price of the replacement vehicle does not exceed the insured value of the Insured vehicle. 

The renewal policy terms of existing customers update:

• Renewal terms with the new underwriting approach (not asking for sum insured) will be sending out in May (expiring late June / July onwards).
• The renewal handling on Qnect remains unchanged.

Key Quotation factor of Motor Insurance:

Since drivers' age is a key quotation factor, please make sure inputting the accurate "Date of Birth" for Insured and Named Driver(s) when obtaining quotation.

Loss of luggage or personal belongings, mostly due to negligence of individuals or airlines. It is one of the most problems when traveling and one of the most frequently claimed items in travel insurance.

When you issue new travel policy and gross premium is HK$1,500 or above, you can get QBE i-Tag global positioning finder. You can wear or hang this finder on any personal belongings to locate the items and help you to find lost items quickly. The following are i-Tag functions:

1. Global positioning search to prevent loss of luggage or important item.
2. Accurate search at close range to find items quickly.
