QBE Appoints New Global Data Center Lead
NEW YORK, August 18, 2026 – International business insurer QBE has appointed Jamie Thompson to the newly created role of Global Director of Data Centers to develop an integrated insurance proposition that addresses the evolving risks facing this fast-growing critical infrastructure.
London-based Jamie Thompson, who previously led the Financial Lines team for QBE’s International Markets, will bring together expertise from underwriting, risk engineering, claims and distribution, to deliver a global proposition for data centers around the world.
With cloud migration and Artificial Intelligence usage pushing demand, data center capacity will double globally between 2026 and 2030, with nearly 100 gigawatts (GW) of power added. To support this, the sector is experiencing an infrastructure investment surge requiring up to $3 trillion by 20301.
“The data center sector is rapidly growing and evolving with the advent of AI. Sheer size and scale, power and redundancy requirements, choice of locations around the world mean that the sector increasingly needs adapted solutions backed by deep expertise and global reach,” said Cécile Fresneau, Managing Director of QBE’s Insurance Division.
Newly appointed QBE Global Director of Data Centers Jamie Thompson added: “Coverage gaps are emerging and the complex and interconnected risks associated with data centers will need sophisticated solutions. To provide a globally consistent approach, we will develop a proposition incorporating multiple products, looking at the complete data lifecycle and broader risk landscape for businesses and communities.”
Jamie Thompson has been with QBE for over 20 years. In addition to his experience in the London market, he served as the Director for QBE Canada. Across underwriting and portfolio management, he has built a track record leading complex books of business.
