Standard & Poor's active company rating scale ranges from AAA (Extremely Strong) to CC (Extremely Weak). - Debt Rating: A debt rating is an assessment of an issuer's creditworthiness to meet a specific financial obligation (e.g., senior debt, surplus notes, commercial paper, etc.). The rating agencies do not provide ratings as a recommendation to purchase insurance or to purchase, sell, or hold a financial obligation.
