The last place anyone wants to celebrate their holidays is in an emergency room. General Casualty offers several pointers to keep your holidays safe this year.

Around the tree

Reduce the chances of a tree fire by purchasing a fresh tree and keeping it well watered. Make sure artificial trees are fire resistant. Keep all trees away from heat sources and use safety-tested lights.

In the kitchen

Pay special attention to small children who may want to help make holiday meals and goodies, especially around sharp objects and hot stoves. With extra cooking and baking comes increased chances of cooking fires, so don't leave pots unattended and keep combustible objects away from the stove. Use turkey fryers with extreme caution.

On the road

Always celebrate responsibly-especially when you're driving. Carpool and designate a driver before the festivities begin. Beware of severe winter weather and unsafe driving conditions.
