Amanda Hughes joins Group Executive Committee

QBE appoints Amanda Hughes as Group Executive, People and Culture QBE Insurance Group Limited today announced the appointment of Amanda Hughes as Group Executive, People and Culture.
Amanda joined QBE in June 2020 as Group Head of Culture, Performance and Reward, with responsibility for performance, reward, culture and diversity & inclusion activities across the Group. During this time, Amanda has led the evolution of QBE’s culture program and, more recently, her role was expanded to include HR accountability for QBE’s corporate functions.
Amanda has held a number of executive roles during her 17 years in Human Resources, working for Lendlease, Macquarie Group and most recently AMP, where she was Director of People and Culture. Amanda began her career as a Chartered Accountant and has worked in Sydney, London and Auckland.
Andrew Horton, Group CEO, said “Amanda is a respected leader with significant HR experience combined with strong business acumen. We are delighted to appoint her to this important role and I look forward to working with her as we continue to evolve our culture at QBE.”
“We are fortunate to have such high calibre leaders within our organisation and Amanda’s appointment is a great example of how we are accelerating our talent and leadership strategy and building deep bench strength across our business,” he said.
Amanda will commence in her role on 1 December, subject to regulatory approval. She will be based in the company’s head office in Sydney and form part of the Group Executive Committee, reporting to Andrew.
This appointment follows Margaret Murphy’s decision to return to the UK late last year. She will work closely with Amanda to support her transition before finishing up with QBE in late March 2022.
“On behalf of the Group Executive Committee I’d like to thank Margaret for her contribution to QBE and wish her all the best for the future,” said Andrew.
