QBE board members ringing a bell

QBE is proud to celebrate 50 years of trading on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) since listing in 1973. This significant milestone marks 50 years of growth, innovation and a commitment to shareholders, customers, and the global insurance industry.

QBE has charted a journey of success over the last five decades, establishing itself as a trusted leader within the insurance market, assisting customers and whole economies to recover from major events.

Key highlights of QBE’s 50-year journey since listing:

  • QBE was the largest listing of 1973, with a market capitalisation of $41.5 million. Today, it has a market capitalisation of over $23 billion, a presence in 27 countries and nearly 13,000 employees.
  • QBE Australia has grown and diversified through a series of acquisitions such as Australian Eagle Insurance, Trade Indemnity Australia, and several underwriting agencies.
  • QBE also moved into lenders mortgage insurance, acquiring PMI Australia – now QBE Lenders Mortgage Insurance (QBE LMI) in 2008.
  • In 2009, QBE acquired 100% of regional and rural insurer Elders Insurance Limited and 75% of Elders Insurance Agency, taking total ownership of the agency business in 2014.

Chairman of QBE Group Board, Mike Wilkins said: “Reaching the 50-year milestone on the ASX is a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated team, valued partners, shareholders and loyal customers.”

“Not only is this a celebration of QBE’s global progress and achievements, but also of the contributions we have made to the Australian economy since listing. We are immensely proud, and we extend our gratitude to all those who have been part of this journey,” he said.

“As we look forward to the next 50 years, we will be led by our purpose of enabling a more resilient future – and we are well positioned globally with the right combination of focus, people, geographies, and opportunity to deliver that future.”

To mark the occasion, QBE celebrated with a small ceremony at the ASX Exchange on 9 August.
