Resilient Workforce

Enable a sustainable and resilient workforce

Our culture and the capability of our people are drivers of value for QBE. A sustainable and resilient workforce is underpinned by how we engage and connect our people to our purpose and vision. Investing in our people’s career and development, and our inclusive culture, can allow us to continue to attract and retain the best talent.

At QBE, we believe that a thriving workplace is one where employees feel supported, valued, and empowered to prioritise their mental health.

QBE was recognised as the first financial institution and insurer to progress from "Skilled Workplace" to "Advanced Workplace" by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia. This recognition highlights our focus on embedding Mental Health First Aid into our culture and our dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment.

QBE was acknowledged for our continuous efforts, expanding support networks across various regions in Australia and New Zealand, and elevating the MHFA officer profile during hybrid working.

We engage our people on sustainability through delivering sustainability awareness sessions, providing resources and e-learning modules, and connecting directly across the business.

Our Global Sustainability Network, divisional Sustainability Champions Networks and QBE Foundation are key channels to drive employee engagement and awareness of our sustainability strategy. These are platforms for our people to share knowledge and help tackle local challenges.

At QBE, we’re working to support our people through life’s most meaningful moments. Our global parental leave approach is inclusive, flexible, and designed to empower all parents, regardless of gender or family structure. We offer a minimum of 12 weeks paid parental leave across all QBE locations globally and have removed eligibility barriers such as length of service. Beyond this, we offer enhanced provisions in some regions, and as at July 2025, the majority of our people working on a full-time basis are able to access at least 18 weeks paid parental leave. For example:

  • Our people in Australia & New Zealand can access up to 18 weeks paid parental leave for permanent employees, with the option to take this at half pay. Additional unpaid leave is available, and superannuation contributions continue for the first 12 months of leave. Our approach removes eligibility barriers such as length of service and supports all family types, including adoption, surrogacy, and foster care. We also provide return-to-work support and encourage shared caregiving.
  • Our people in the United Kingdom can access 26 weeks paid parental leave for all eligible employees and supports all family types, including adoption, surrogacy, and foster care. We offer tailored support for maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave.

Our approach reflects our commitment to inclusion, flexibility and shared care - so our people can be there for the moments that matter most.
