QBE North America Celebrates National Adoption Day Through Employee Support

Wednesday, November 28, 2018, New York, New York— In celebration of National Adoption Day, QBE North America, an Integrated Specialist Insurer, is proud to announce that, for the third year, it has been named as a recipient of the Adoption-Friendly Workplace Award from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. In celebration of this important recognition, the company is also giving back to the foster care community by supporting children who are waiting for permanent homes.

“QBE is pleased, once again, to be the recipient of the Adoption-Friendly Workplace Award. Offering employees the resources and tools to live their best life is a great source of pride for our company,” said Joy Matthews, VP Total Rewards of QBE North America.

QBE offers its employees six weeks paid parental leave and up to $10,000 financial reimbursement. Additionally, all working parents receive guidance on preparing for parental leave and returning to work, back-up child care options for when regular care is unavailable, as well child care discounts, special needs assistance and educational advising.

 
In alignment with QBE’s values, the company’s Multicultural employee group is also running drives across the country to provide over 100, fully supplied Comfort Cases to children in the foster care system. Comfort Cases is a national non-profit organization that delivers a bag filled with new toiletries, book, blanket, stuffed animal, journal, and pajamas to children removed from their homes and entering into the foster care system.

“Every child deserves to pack their belongings in a bag that they can call their own,” Johnston said. “I am so proud when I observe employees voluntarily seeking out and supporting grass roots initiatives like Comfort Cases. It is a true demonstration that our culture of giving is more than just words—our employees live and breathe it every day.”

Since 2007, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has compiled an annual list of the top adoption-friendly workplaces. Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces are determined by an analysis of financial assistance and paid leave for families who adopt, based on surveys completed by employers.

More than 100,000 children in the U.S. foster care system are waiting to be adopted. Every year, more than 23,000 children in foster care age out of the system without families.
