The pandemic has led to a big increase in digital usage across all areas of life in Hong Kong, particularly as a result of more people working from home. More than half (53%) of the Hong Kong SMEs surveyed had accelerated investment in digital technologies to improve efficiency, resilience and growth. The majority said they have now digitalised their business process – 59% now, up from 51% pre-COVID. Areas such as e-commerce platforms and software, employee systems and online marketing remain central in their investment planning for 2021. Hong Kong businesses are more likely to take out business liability and professional indemnity insurance only after an incident or crisis occurs, according to research by QBE. As a result, these companies are missing out on the potential opportunity for compensation when something does happen – putting themselves, their businesses, employees, and customers all at risk.
