As one of the world’s largest insurance and reinsurance companies, with operations in all major insurance markets, there are a range of climate-related risks and opportunities that may impact our business, customers and the communities in which we operate over the short, medium and long term. Our approach to managing our climate-related risks and opportunities is embedded in our sustainability strategy.
We advocate for policies that support climate resilience. As an Australian listed insurer, QBE primarily contributes to the public policy debate within Australia. QBE engages with governments, trade associations and industry bodies to progress initiatives that support climate resilience.
Our approach to responsible underwriting and investing is consistent with our signatory status to the United Nations Environment Programme – Finance Initiative’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance and the Principles for Responsible Investment. For more information on our memberships please see Our memberships and industry involvement.
Our Group Environment Policy sets out the global minimum standards for QBE’s management of environmental issues, that our employees, including contractors, Board Directors and wholly owned subsidiaries, must follow. Our Environmental and Social Risk Framework outlines our approach to addressing key environmental and social risks across our underwriting and investment activities.
We have reassessed our commitment to achieve net zero emissions in our underwriting and investment portfolios by 2050. Our revised strategic approach focuses on actions within QBE’s control and where we believe we can drive real-world change in line with our role as an insurer.
More information about our climate-related governance, strategy, risk management and progress can be found in our annual reporting suite. From February 2026, this includes our climate-related financial disclosure prepared in alignment with the requirements of the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standard AASB S2 Climate-related Disclosures.
