Storms impacting multiple parts of Australia – support for our customers

We’re here to support our customers affected by the low-pressure system moving across southern areas of Australia, bringing destructive winds, heavy rainfall and coastal impacts across multiple states, including Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.

We have additional team members ready to take your calls and help lodge claims. If you need to make a claim, please contact us as soon as you’re safe and able to do so.

Our assessors and tradespeople can only enter affected areas when emergency services declare it’s safe to do so. However, notifying us of your claim as soon as possible helps us start the claims process early so we can get you back on your feet sooner.

How to claim

  • If you’re insured directly with QBE, call us on 133 QBE (133 723) or lodge your claim online. If you don’t know or are unable to access your policy details, we can locate them with your name and address.
  • If your policy is through an intermediary or financial institution, please contact them to lodge your claim.

Most importantly, we want you and your family to be safe. Contact us immediately for urgent ‘make safe’ repairs, temporary accommodation or emergency cash payments, and make sure you follow the advice of local authorities.

Helpful reminders

  • Always follow the advice and direction of emergency services.
  • Never try to drive through flood-affected areas.
  • Return to your property only when the authorities deem it safe.
  • Be cautious around electrical items that may have been affected by water. Don’t turn on anything, including lights, until an electrician can check it’s safe to do so and avoid fallen power lines which may still be live.
  • Watch out for wildlife, such as snakes, that may have been displaced by the flood.
  • Take photographs or videos of any damage to support your claim and speed up claim processing time.
  • Discard any damaged goods that may pose a health-risk – don’t forget to take photographs and, if safe to do so, keep a sample of the material to support your claim
  • Never drive a vehicle you believe may be unsafe, particularly if its windscreen is smashed, its indicators damaged, or it has been waterlogged.
  • Be aware of scammers offering assistance with claims or repairs – always contact us first to ensure the works are authorised by a reputable company that guarantees its work.
