What to do after a motorbike accident

Motorcycle accidents can be overwhelming, with potential injuries, damage to your bike or other vehicles and property. So, if you own a motorbike, here’s what to do and who to contact if you’re in an accident.

First steps to take

  1. Stay safe – get off the road if it’s safe to do so
  2. Check for injuries and call 000 if needed
  3. Exchange name, number, address, registration, vehicle, and insurance details with the other driver or motorcyclist
  4. Take photos of the bike, and damage to cars or property
  5. Report the accident to the police if necessary
  6. Contact your motorcycle insurer, even if you’re not at fault

What if the accident was your fault?

If you’re the at-fault rider and have damaged your bike
