QBE Foundation and NSW Swifts team up to score goals for kids’ cancer research

The Kids’ Cancer Project came out a winner at Saturday's Super Netball match between the NSW Swifts and the Melbourne Vixens, taking home a $5,400 donation from the QBE Foundation following its Goals for Good shoot out.

The QBE Foundation donated $300 to the charity for every goal scored during the half-time shoot out in a show of support for The Kids’ Cancer Project’s Crazy Hair & Sock initiative which inspired the netball round’s charity theme and raised money for children’s cancer research.

A total of 18 goals were scored by Under 12s player Hayley Martin during the sixty second shootout raising $5,400 dollars.

QBE Australia Pacific CEO Vivek Bhatia said the initiative was part of QBE’s commitment to supporting the communities it operates in and was made possible by the Swifts’ shared passion for The Kids’ Cancer Project and its vital cause.

“Goals for Good helps us bring to life the QBE Foundation’s mission to partner with not-for-profits to help protect vulnerable communities.

“Both QBE and our partners the NSW Swifts are proud and long-time supporters of The Kids’ Cancer Project and we’re pleased to once again join forces to support their critical and life-changing research efforts.”

NSW Swifts Commercial Manager Tim Underwood said the club was proud to support the Goals for Good initiative and Crazy Hair & Sock Round.

“We’re thrilled we were able to once again team up with the QBE Foundation to support The Kids’ Cancer Project and the Crazy Hair & Sock Round,” he said.

“This helps raise awareness and vital funds for children’s cancer research - a cause very close to our hearts, and one that we have proudly supported for a long time now.

“We would like to thank the QBE Foundation for their generosity and everyone across the NSW netball community who has supported the Crazy Hair & Sock initiative.”

Owen Finegan, CEO of The Kids’ Cancer Project said support from partners like QBE and the NSW Swifts is critical to its mission.

“Thank you to the QBE Foundation and the NSW Swifts for your ongoing support. Funds raised at the match will support medical research, better treatments, building capabilities and the development of survivorship programs – all vital to our mission to end childhood cancer.”

The Kids’ Cancer Project has been an official charity partner of the QBE Foundation since 2015 supporting the charity with financial contributions, employee volunteering, fundraising support and other initiatives to help raise awareness for our cause.

The NSW Swifts have also partnered with the charity since 2008, actively supporting its work through fundraising and awareness efforts.

Once distributed, the donated funds raised will bring QBE’s philanthropic contributions to charity partners and causes to almost $950,000 for the year to date.
