QBE joins Sydney Swans in drought relief support

QBE Insurance will stand shoulder to shoulder with its partners the Sydney Swans by matching the funds raised through the ‘footy for drought relief’ initiative this weekend. 

Members and supporters are encouraged to give generously to support Rural Aid’s Buy A Bale campaign to help Australian farmers in their time of need during two blockbuster matches being held at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) this Saturday.

At the SCG the Sydney Swans will take on the Hawthorn Hawks in a battle for fourth place on the AFL premiership ladder, while the Sydney Roosters play the Brisbane Broncos and will also jostle for finals positions.

The Sydney Swans Foundation announced they would donate $10,000 to the cause, while the SCG Trust will donate $1 for every supporter who attends Saturday night’s AFL and NRL games in the precinct.

Today, QBE Insurance, principal partners of the Sydney Swans, announced they would match the Swans’ $10,000 donation as well as the SCG Trust’s donation for each attendee across both matches.

QBE’s CEO of Australian and New Zealand Operations, Vivek Bhatia, said he was delighted to join with our long-term partner on the initiative to support the many farmers around the country doing it tough in Australia’s drought crisis.

“We see the devastating impact this has on our customers and partners – both through QBE and our Elders Insurance network - and just how hard these communities are doing it at the moment,” Mr Bhatia said.

“As insurers, it’s our job to support the communities in which we operate, but we’re also part of those communities, and that’s why we want to be part of the effort to help.

“The forecast might be for a wet weekend here in Sydney, but I’d encourage everyone to get down to the SCG or SFS and brave it. Not only are there two cracking matches being played, with finals positions at stake, but it’s a hugely worthwhile cause,” he said.
