QBE legal team amongst Australia and New Zealand's finest

QBE’s in-house legal team have been acknowledged as one of the region’s finest, being named in the inaugural 'Legal 500 GC Powerlist - Australia and New Zealand Teams 2017' at a special event on Monday evening.

The Legal 500 is a leading trade publication for the legal fraternity and the GC 500 Powerlist is a prestigious annual compilation of the leading law firms and in-house practitioners in each region.

The announcement comes just weeks after QBE Australia and New Zealand Operations (ANZO) General Counsel Pita Williams officially took her place on the ANZO Leadership Team, elevating the status of the legal function within the business.

On the inclusion for the GC Powerlist, Ms Williams said the team not only had outstanding technical expertise and experience, but were champions of the QBE culture.

“We’re thrilled to be acknowledged by The Legal 500 and delighted to put QBE amongst the leading legal teams in our region," Ms Williams said.

“Collectively, we have more than 200 years’ worth of legal experience in our team, with a collaborative and inclusive culture. This is evident in how the more senior members make time to knowledge share and guide more junior members in the team.

“We live and breathe the QBE values and celebrate excellence, inclusiveness and delivering great customer outcomes. We strive to be a genuine strategic support function for the business and work with our colleagues to help find the best solutions, not present them with roadblocks.

“There has also been a concerted effort to develop our breadth and depth of knowledge of the business and foster a culture of knowledge sharing. This has been achieved through the placement of lawyers from the legal team into other business units and bringing legally qualified business staff into the legal team on short term secondments, which has broadened our outlook, diversified our culture and brought a fresh perspective to current processes and procedures.

“This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the work we’ve done to date, but also serves as motivation for us to continue working to support our colleagues, partners and customers,” she said.

The QBE in-house legal team is made of 13 team members, with experience spanning the financial services sector.
