Family Inclusive Workplace certified 2022/2023 logo

In 2021, QBE joined UNICEF Australia, Parents At Work, and our fellow founding partners to launch the National Work + Family Standards.

The Standards provide employers with best practice and frameworks to build family-friendly workplace cultures and, excitingly, we were one of the first to be certified in line with them.

Share the Care – our gender-neutral, flexible paid parental leave policy

Launched in March 2019, QBE led the way as the first general insurer in Australia and New Zealand to launch a gender-neutral parental leave policy, named Share the Care. Our aim is to disrupt stereotypes and mainstream caring and flexibility for all parents.

“To be able to be there in those early months for my wife and daughter, more than normally would have been the case, was such an incredible privilege.

Even after taking full advantage of the Share the Care initiative, I still can’t believe how fortunate we are to have this fantastic opportunity.” – People Leader New Zealand

We provide a range of leave options and support pathways, including flexible leave, early pregnancy loss leave, and 18 weeks of paid parental leave.

Employee benefits

Our global employee benefits programs are designed to empower our employees to build resilience and thrive, both at work and at home. Our range of programs cater to the diverse needs of our employees, including workplace flexibility, financial and personal wellbeing, and community volunteering. Our goal is to enable our employees to lead fulfilling lives while also contributing to the success of QBE.

Our enhanced flexible leave offering also acknowledges the diversity of all family dynamics and life stages, including recognising our fur family members, catering for elite sporting events for athletes, graduation ceremonies, plus a range of family planning support and treatment options, including menopause support in the workplace.

Access to wellbeing coaching

Through REACH, QBE’s employee assistance program, employees and their immediate family members have access to holistic coaching, nutritional, financial and legal advice, and confidential counselling supporting all aspects of wellbeing.

These services are available free of charge, are confidential and independent of QBE, and also assist our people and their families in their time of need when experiencing issues at home or at work.

Our networks

Inclusion of diversity is fundamental to our cultural DNA, so we can #ValueAllViews and unlock the value of the varied perspectives and experiences of our people.

We have a range of employee networks that reflect the diversity of our employees and their lived experiences. These include:

  • Pink Elephants Peer Support Network, supporting early pregnancy loss
  • Award-winning QBE Pride Network, driving LGBTIQ+ inclusion
  • Family Domestic Violence First Responders Network
  • M Café quarterly forum covering Menopause 101 in the workplace
  • Bunjiis Network, supporting our Reconciliation Action Plan
