QBE’s Premiums4Good recognised as leader in social impact investing

QBE Insurance’s global initiative, Premiums4Good, has been recognised as one of five leaders in impact investing during the inaugural Australian Impact Investment Awards, winning Impact Asset Owner of the Year 2018.

The awards were established as a collaboration between the Impact Investment Summit Asia Pacific and the Impact Investing Hub, aiming to recognise outstanding activity and individuals in the Australian Impact Investing ecosystem.

The judges noted that Premiums4Good is an innovative way of mobilising capital for impact and a leading example of how large institutional investors can have a substantial impact portfolio driven by customers, where social value is integrated with business value.

Through Premiums4Good, QBE invests up to 25 per cent of a customer’s everyday insurance spend in areas creating positive environmental or social change. These investments can include social impact bonds, green bonds and other social investments, such as the Resolve Social Benefit Bond.

Premiums4Good is embedded across QBE and is free to customers, with investment directed towards projects that help the environment, like renewable energy, waste management and water conservation, and initiatives that deliver direct, sustainable benefits to communities like homelessness or supporting at-risk families.

QBE Chief Customer Officer of Credit Lines, Phil White, said he was proud to see Premiums4Good formally acknowledged by the industry at the first Australian Impact Investment Awards.

“Premiums4Good is a significant milestone for QBE and we’re delighted to be recognised as one of five leaders at the Impact Investment Awards. We currently have 34 investments globally that are in the Premiums4Good pool with a value of around US$470m, and we’re on track to deliver solid growth in this sector.

“We really believe in the positive change this program is contributing to communities here and around the world. QBE is committed to finding opportunities that deliver a financial return, but also deliver social and environmental benefits to the communities in which we operate.”
